Traveling Solo on a Quark Expeditions Voyage.
Quark Expeditions welcomes couples, groups of friends, families, and solo travelers. Our voyages are especially popular with solo travelers for a variety of reasons.
Cost-saving for solo travelers. Solo travelers can take advantage of Quark Expeditions Request-Share program. Rather than paying a single supplement for your polar voyage, you can request to share a cabin with another guest of the same gender. Both guests will save the single supplement. If a cabin mate cannot be found for you, the single supplement is waived. It’s risk-free, plus you’re on your way to making a new friend. Small group ambience. Quark Expeditions limits the number of guests to 199. One of our ships accommodates 128. That makes it very easy to recognize familiar faces. You’ll be on first-name basis with fellow guests and staff in no time at all. Intimate atmosphere and instant camaraderie. Guests often comment on the friendliness of our voyages, which extends to guests and expedition team members, alike. Our adventure guides and expert presenters are approachable, and always eager to talk about their polar expertise. As a solo traveler, you certainly won’t lack for passionate conversations! Meals together. There is no assigned seating on any of our ships. Our restaurants and dining-rooms include tables for two, four, eight and even larger groups. Solo travelers are often welcomed to join guests with whom they’ve spent the day exploring.
Off-ship adventure options. Zodiac cruises with 8 or so fellow guests, onshore hikes, helicopter flightseeing with 7 guests, being paired up in a tandem kayak… Many of Quark Expeditions’ off-ship activities are perfectly suited for connecting and “becoming best buddies” with fellow guests enjoying the same adventure. Invariably, after you’re back on the ship, you’ll be sharing photographs and memories with your new friends over drinks or during dinner. Communal spaces throughout the ship. Our fleet of small polar vessels are designed with spaces to meet and mingle, talk about the day’s adventures, or enjoy a drink at the end of the day. Lounges, lecture theaters (some with small tables and chairs), bars, library, and viewing spaces on the deck are conducive to spontaneous discussions. Polar passion is a great connector. It’s impossible to stand on the deck of a ship watching a polar bear, gaze up at the Northern Lights, or hear your first thunderous glacier calving—and not turn to the guests next to you and share the incredible polar wonder you’ve just experienced. As a solo traveler, the joy of being with like-minded travelers is that you already have so much in common.
