West Greenland DISKO BAY Disko Bay is the largest open bay in western Greenland. It measures 150 km from north to south, 100 kilometers from east to west and has average depth of 400 metres. After the disappearance of the Norse in the 15th century, the Thule Inuit established themselves in the Disko Bay area and Europeans did not reappear until Danish colonization in the 18th century, apart from an English expedition in 1587.
